Panaray® MA12 Modular Line Array Loudspeaker: Clear Sound, Clear Choice

Panaray® MA-12 Modular Line Array Loudspeaker

If you are looking for a sound system that essentially covers both clarity and intelligibility, than the Bose® Panaray® MA12 Modular Line Array loudspeakers are the right choice. This innovative loudspeaker developed by Bose® delivers high speech intelligibility and natural sounding music even in the most acoustically demanding situations. The name MA12 was given as it’s a modular line array with 12 drivers. The line array’s unique feature enables sound that is not too loud for those sitting close by, and not too soft for those sitting far away. The slim profile of the MA12 loudspeaker provides an attractive design element to any installation and is paintable to match any décor!  These speakers are well suited for areas such as houses of worship, airports, auditoriums, gymnasiums and mall atriums, in fact virtually in any room where high reverberation time is a challenge.

After years of extensive research by Bose engineers it was concluded that a vertical line array of twelve 2.25-inch (6.4 cm) drivers would be the minimum configuration to yield the optimum wide horizontal and narrow vertical pattern control. The Bose® MA12 loudspeakers reproduce the entire critical vocal range (155Hz-12 kHz) with no crossover required. As a result, this loudspeaker is surprisingly efficient, delivering speech with intelligibility and clarity.

MA12 Sound Coverage

The MA12 speaker is designed for placement at ear level and radiates a wedge of sound at a near constant height, significantly reducing ceiling and floor reflections. Multiple units may be stacked to provide coverage for sloped, theatre-style seating or for greater distance. For bass enhancement the MA12 can be combined with the Bose MB4 modular bass speaker. The MA12 loudspeaker takes full advantage of a line array's ability to target sound where it's wanted most. The MA12 line array is also less sensitive to microphone feedback, minimizing disturbing squeals during spoken words.

The MA12 loudspeakers are also engineered to operate with the Panaray® system digital controller. The latter is a one box solution that provides smooth, accurate active equalization with the touch of just one button. Bose had produces the MA12 EQ card to provide active equalization when driven by Bose power amplifier. The Bose ControlSpace (as covered in the August Issue of SoundCheck) also has built –in loudspeaker equalization for Bose MA12.

Editor’s Note

I have received many inquiries from readers asking why this newsletter was named “SoundCheck”. In theory what is SoundCheck? This term refers to the time where the installers and the engineers make sure that system installed sounds fantastic and that the client get a “rockin” good time.  An effective sound check, whether an hour long or five minutes will usually do the trick, whereas an inefficient check can result in disaster. Hence, SoundCheck is one very important factor for any successful completion of a sound related installation. That’s exactly what we are trying here… keeping you up to date with first hand information on what’s happening in the wonderful world of Bose Professional Systems and beyond!

Watch out for a contest that hits our newsletter in the month of October, details will be given in the next issue.

Sit back, and relax.

Happy Reading!
